Hello! My name is Brynna Kagawa-Visentin (she/her) and I am a PhD researcher in Geography at Simon Fraser University.
My work is motivated by my curiosity about the power relations driving some of our time’s most pressing ecological and multispecies challenges. A deep connection to my local natural environment and the conviction that we must reconfigure our values and political organizing to include nonhuman nature has guided my career as an engaged citizen and academic. My research integrates animal geographies, political ecologies, and Indigenous onto-epistemologies to study nature-society dynamics in a variety of geographic contexts.
I earned my MSc in Environment, Culture and Society in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh (2023). I am currently on the Board of Directors at Sierra Club Canada and have previous experience working for various conservation, climate, and ethical fashion non-profits, and environmental consulting practices. You can take a look at my work, curriculum vitae, or contact me.
